Reflex exhibition design

R E F L E X

This is a very short group project designing exhibition design concepts for an exhibition of work by students from the Screen Cultures Programme.

The public exhibition opens Tuesday 7th February 2012, open until 9th February 2012.

REFLEX is a vibrant short live project that showcases work by Screen Cultures students. It has become a tradition that IAD students design and set up the exhibition. It is a very low budget (£100) and therefore a lot of imagination is absolutely necessary. Less is more.

You need to produce drawings; plans, sections, visuals, diagrams and materials information. Instructions need to be in place for the installation.

You will work in groups  – each group coming up with ONE design concept for the exhibition. This is also a Student Competition, where the most innovative and suitable exhibition design wins and gets to build the exhibition. The idea for the group concepts should come from the work that was carried out during PROJECT WEEK (individual exhibition research).

You need to consider the various constraints (heights, widths etc) depending on the ‘station’ activity.
Health & Safety, risk assessment etc.

The Screen Cultures students will produce in a group, an interactive object or environment, which is designed to be exhibited in a public gallery context.

The artefact should not use conventional input and/or output methods to establish relationships with its users and may explore concepts of sensing and/or actuation which have been covered in class or may be based on techniques and materials your group has researched.

Tue 24.1.12      Meeting with Heidi AB145 – check on Project Week activities – groups assigned.
Tue  31.1.12     Studio project work ALL DAY – ideas and concepts into place. Agreed, materials and costs to be complete for installation 6/7th Feb.

selection of winning concept. (All students/groups to help set up the chosen design).
Mon 6th Feb       Work on any final designs/materials/instructions. Compile group document.
Mon 13th Feb     Exhibition take-down. Group 2 delegate tasks to all 1.30pm.
